Medicare
Medicare, made easier to understand
Medicare has several moving parts and the words are not obvious. Here is what each one is, in plain terms, so that a conversation about your own options starts from something solid.
Original Medicare
Part A covers hospital care and Part B covers outpatient care. It is run by the federal government.
Medicare Advantage
A private plan that provides your Part A and Part B coverage, often with extra benefits. Plans, networks and costs vary by county.
Part D
Prescription drug coverage. Which drugs are covered, and at what tier, differs between plans.
Medicare Supplement
Also called Medigap. It helps with some of what Original Medicare leaves you to pay. It is separate from Part D.
Questions people ask
When should I start looking?
Around three months before you turn 65, or before you retire if that is later. There are enrolment windows and missing one can have lasting effects.
Do you offer every plan available to me?
No. I do not offer every plan available in your area, and what I can tell you is limited to the plans I do offer. Medicare.gov and 1-800-MEDICARE can give you information on all of your options.
Request a Medicare review?
No cost, no obligation, and a straight answer.
